Keyword Research Tools.
Keyword research is like a sailors view of the sea.
Keyword research can really be a tough task - just like searching in a sea of daily massive search intents; and especially, if not well planned - with lack of support of effective keyword research tools to help you focus, see and envision your site in a clear view of continuous search traffic.

The internet, as well, is flooded with quite a big range of effective, both online and offline keyword research tools - and softwares; with some of the tools absolutely free to use, while others offers both free and paid options.

Note: The premium/paid plan options of keyword research tools are more in-depth, when it comes to the keyword search volumes and results, which means more added value to you the user/customer.

So, am going to list them down and give you a brief overview of how they work, just to guide you up on what to expect, if - and for your informed decision - in case you pick any of them as your choice keyword research tool.

That will now be for your consideration when you finally embark on your keyword research process.

But as were proceed, here are my list of the (6) six best keyword research tools (in no particular popularity-order) for your selection, to help you find out which are some of the best relevant among millions of keywords that are searched every day.

NB: Disclosure"this post contains affiliate materials, contents, banners and/or links; and if you click on any of them we will earn commissions from your actions/activities. So let's here we have: -

1. Ahrefs (Keyword Explorer).

Ahref is definitely one of the best keyword research resources. The ahref's Keywords Explorer is one among the best online keyword research tools out there, to help you get great keyword ideas with search volumes.

The site - I would say - is quite comprehensive in terms of keyword resource and research depth.

With Keyword Explorer tool, it allows you to identify the most potential keywords (even from your competitors) with the highest organic search volumes.

You will also be able to extract a huge list of semantically related phrases apart from the keywords that you target the most. Which will also give you a wide range/list of keywords to choose from.

Ahref has a Site Explorer tool that can help you do better competitor analysis. But you can explore their 7day product trial with $7 price plan.

In the - Site Explorer - search bar, just enter your competitors URL or name and then click search. You will be able to get a return of keywords that were used by your competitors in their SEO.

This makes your work simple.

To understand how it works, just go to ahref.com and once the site is open, within it on the dashboard, go to >> the Site Explorer tool, enter the competitor's URL/name on the search box and simply click search/browse; or you can just explore or play around by typing a range of keywords to see which search results you got from your competitors.

The steps above from Ahref will definitely provide you with adequate keywords for your SEO.

2. Google Search Console.

It’s a free service that can be utilized by any web-owner to check their site's health and performance, apart from finding keywords with this tool.

It will help you understand how Google sees your website and if there are any problem you can also find out and sought them out; also check which search terms are already bringing people to your site.

This is a starting point for generating new, related terms that you can use for SEO, content development and marketing.

So Google Search Console and Google Analytics will help you diagnose your site well, apart from getting keyword suggestions from them.

To understand how it works open Google Analytics, then go to
Acquisition » All Traffic » Channels and click on Organic Search within the table, you’ll see a list of phrases.

But while you are on Search Console interface simply click on Start now, and you will be directed to login into your account, then follow the above steps to access all the information you require from this tool.

So that's where you can start your keyword research process.

Tip: If you have linked your Google Search Console account to your Google Analytics account, then while you’re in Analytics, go to Acquisition » Search Console » Queries. So from there you will be able to find various performance reports of your site, but more information will be about the search terms used by site visitors into your blog/website.

So try it out.

3. SEMRush.

SEMRush is an all round tool, even though I would not recommend it for some of you - who are starting up - with a tight budget out there, because it's a premium brand that can be a bit restrictive for low prices.

With a simple interface like the one below, you are able to just type any seed keyword, like - SEO, and get more suggestions of your target keywords.

But if you are more interested in in-depth keyword analysis then SEMRush best for you, consider it; it's one of the best keyword research tools for your choice.

So what do I mean by in-depth; it is that, you will be able to spy, analyze and beat your competitors, since you will hold their information and keep them intact for your site's competition strategies.

Make use of its Metrics like;

i). Related Keywords.

In other words these are the Latent Semantics of your seed-keywords.

To help you build a strong keyword research and list that you can seamlessly download into an excel spreadsheet where you can filter and sieve them at your own pace for the best targeted keywords/phrases to boost your traffic.

ii). Backlink Analyzer.

Track your links; get to know which ones drives or losses more traffic for your site, among other tools.

Ones you are logged in (depending on your plan) go to Keyword Analytics, and then click on Overview.

In the search bar, type your keyword then click on search/browse. At the bottom you will find (View full report) from the Overview window. That report contains the full list of keywords that you were targeting.

To go deeper and find more relevant/related phrases, type one of the keywords that you found from the full report, into the search bar again and click search/browse; you will again find more related phrases, for you to come up with a rich list of keywords to develop your contents.

Bottomline: SEMRush is one of the best, and premium brand keyword research tools. Explore it up, you will be impressed.

4. KWFinder.

So, are you a SEO/Keyword Research expert, an industry newbie, or just a web visitor in need of an effective keyword research tool?

Well, here is KWFinder. It offers both free and paid plans.

I recommend to you, because it is an excellent keyword research tool that will give you more data in terms of keywords and related suggestions - regardless of your niche or expertise - to boost your SEO.

But before we proceed, remember, that its free plan/option is quite limited in terms of keyword search/volume and it restricts you to only 5 keyword searches per 24hour period i.e. 5 searches per day, and 50 keyword suggestions per search with 50 backlinks within that period of time.

So to get started, first, go to the kwfinder.com site and login to your KWFinder account. That is, if you have already registered an account in the site.
  • Note: If you don't have an account, maybe because you feel restricted with a tight-budget, don't worry. You can opt to open a free account then upgrade it later, to one of its premium plans; which will enable you to get more in-depth and rich keywords analysis.
Once you have logged into your account, or if you are directed straight away to the keyword search bar; now simply enter any of your seed keywords that you are targeting, into the search bar/search box, and then click on the search icon.

You will get results of:
  • The specific keyword difficulty ratings.
  • Suggested/related keywords Search volumes (depending on the locations, country or language filters that you have checked/selected).
  • Keyword CPC,
among other results.

Look at what search results we received below, when we typed the long-tail keyword "Keyword research tools" on the search bar and clicked search.

In KWFinder, you will also be able to gauge your possibility of ranking (with keywords of your choice) through its inbuilt Google SERP Analysis tool.

Bottomline: Its very simple but highly effective in keyword research results/output.

5. Keywordtool.io

If you are a webmaster, site administrator etc, I know you must be more concerned with the value that you want to give to your web visitors.

This is definitely the ultimate goal - of course, in writing/blogging; through great contents.

To me, I will never be satisfied, unless I also create articles with better keywords (which are driven by the user-intents); that finds their way into the SERP of search engines (like Google, Bing, Yahoo, Baidu etc), on a daily basis in billions of searches per day/month.

And that's what creates the keyword search volumes.

So, for you also, if you want to find those quality long-tail keywords, it means you will need to use a keyword tool that can help you get better, more targeted and relevant keywords/related phrases.

The tool for that would no doubt be Keywordtool.io. With both free and premium/paid accounts, where the free plan gives you a huge list of keywords up-to 750+ keyword and related phrase suggestions.

It's among the best keyword research tools, which includes the other 6 that I have talked about in this post.

Keywordtool.io is a very effective tool when it comes to navigation, with simple user interface meant for even the novice web owner/blogger or visitor; in the process of keyword research.

Keyword.io Keyword Research Tool's Search Bar
This is Keywordtool.io Search Bar. Courtesy
It has a number of keyword research metrics (with incorporated filters) and it has auto-complete search capability that is also used by Google to generate keyword suggestions.

i). Find keywords.

Here you simply key in and click search, to get a list of several keywords based on your niche and the filters like location, country etc will help categorize the keyword outputs based on which specific geographical location or areas you target.

ii). Analyze Competitors.

Just like in the other keyword research and competitors analysis tools you can also dig in for more competitor keywords with keywordtool.io, and under this metric/tool, you just type your competitors URL then click search and you will be able to see which keywords they used in their SEO.

iii). Check Search Volumes.

With the Check Search Volume metric, all you have to do is to enter into the search bar your seed keywords then click search, and you will find all relevant keywords, their search volumes, and keyword difficulty results respectively.

This is simply, I would say, a three-in-one search/results output tool.

So to understand well, it would be better if you give it a try yourself.

6. Browseo.

Think competitors (competition), think backlinks, URLs, keywords and the like. This tool will provide you with just that. Browseo is quite a very simple, easy and absolutely free keyword research tool just for you - the webmaster - to use.

In its search bar - just copy and paste or type your competitor's URL, then click browse, and you will be able to explore the competitor's website.

That step gives you a crucial list of your competitors' information like the; alt tags - from images used, meta tags, header (H1-H6) tags, links (external/internal), word count in terms of - the number of words used in a blog post etc.

In other words, you get the overall site structure of your website i.e. (your site's health diagnosis); but most importantly, the site structure of your competitor(s) as Google sees it.

That way, you will be able to plan and strategize for the next success action for your website/blog.

Final thought.

Well, I started by saying that keywords research can be a tedious process in a sea of massive daily keyword research and search; but that important process can simply be like a hot-air-balloon if not implemented successfully in a targeted way.

And that targeted way can only be achieved if you make use of some of these effective keyword research tools like the ones that I have talked about in this post.

But don't forget to share this post, if it helped solve your problem.

So make a better choice.

Thank you for reading it.
