A mindset to achieve something positive and within a very short span of time. That is if you expect certain results at some point in time, but if it doesn't happen the way you expected it be then it makes you feel more discouraged, demoralised and unable to proceed on with your goals.
These are the 5 (five) reasons why you will hate affiliate marketing, unless you change.
Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links, and so that means if you click and/or purchase any product/service I will receive a commission at no additional cost to you. Read more...
Reason #1: Its Not a Get-rich-quick Scheme.
As opposed to most make-money-online programs, affiliate marketing is the most preferred method by many publishers or webmasters out there to make money online, because of the high commission rates that you receive from the sales of third party product promotions that you make through your website(s).NB: Although it gives you the highest revenue compared to other programs like AdSense, but it takes longer time for you to actually make a sale out of it. But the amount of money that you will make also depends on a number of things e.g the amount of site traffic, your niche, the period your website has been into the market, your promotion strategies and the ads type and frequency etc.
All that put into consideration it might take you longer to actually start earning a reasonable amount of money that you dream of. So affiliate marketing is not a get rich-quick-scheme. That's why if you are not patient enough and dedicate yourself to work harder to reap the benefits from it, then you might loose hope very fast and do away with it altogether.
So avoid or shed-off the get-rich-quick-scheme mentality in affiliate marketing, totally.
Reason #2: Most Affiliate Programs Have a Grace Period.
In most of the affiliate marketing programs or market networks you have a certain period of time that you have to make a sale. If you don't achieve that within the stipulated time span, then your account might be suspended. And what might discourage you even more is that when your account has already made some money which if it does not meet a certain minimum withdrawal threshold (e.g $100) then there will be some percentage deductions to cover some of your affiliate network's costs until your account if finally depleted. What this means is that your website needs to have a steady audience traffic flow and that gives you an opportunity to atleast make a sale to which now gives your website/account that active affiliate status. I have experienced the same, but not all affiliate programs has that policy.
So look for an affiliate network with a grace period that you are comfortable with or conform to the current one with their policies.
Reason #3: You Don't Promote What You Don't Know.
Promoting what (a product/service) you don't understand sometimes might backfire seriously. Some affiliate programs offers extremely high commissions on various products purchased through partner programs. I know its so enticing to earn from such offers, but if you dont have any idea about such products then its a disadvantage and might be a long-term risk to your brand or website.
Look, its an unwritten affiliate marketing rule though, that you can't promote just what you don't know.
Have you ever tried to promote a product that you think you like and truly believe and convinced that it will do well in the market yet you don't have much idea about it? Then later on you rush to write something about it - maybe a product review - yet you truly don't know much about it. Let me assure you, that won't work.
The fact that you have a product and in your mind you think that its a quick-fire brand and this is exactly what you have been looking and waiting for in your affiliate marketing endeavors doesn't count.
Ask yourself, how long have you used that product? How many people do you think like it? Which other similar products compete with it? How do assist a customer who purchased that product if it has problems?
Such brainstorming strategies will help you come up with a proper marketing plan to create a quality promotion content based on your clear knowledge or understanding about a product.
So product knowledge is key in affiliate marketing. Don't just go pick a product/service then rush to promote just because your gut instincts tells you that this product will do well.
So fully understand your affiliate product/service first before you promote it.
Reason #4: Affiliate Marketing is Performance-based.
You don't performance you are out - simple, because most affiliate programs have a grace period, which means you have to deliver within a certain period of time like we have seen in #2 above. So unless you perform most of your affiliate accounts will be suspended and/or eventually terminated, and I believe you won't like it.
Reason #5: Google Snabs Websites With Too Much Affiliate Oriented Ads.
Have you ever heard of Google Page Rank Penalties? Yes it is real and its effects are deeply rooted in affiliate marketing too. This means that, your site too is not spared of any negative effects should it be caught violating any ad rules or policies, because if it does then it might be snabbed by Google and/or ranked lower as a penalty due to too much advertising that mostly distracts your visitors.Well, I acknowledge the fact that, for you to earn reasonable commissions and/or revenues from affiliate marketing, then it means you have to do more when it comes to promoting your affiliate products/services, and that needs a lot of advertising. And for you to achieve that you have to come up with promotion strategies like affiliate reviews, links, banners etc, that is targeted and will encourage clicks and/or eventual purchase of a merchant's product(s) by visitors from your site.
So due to that I know you may be tempted to concentrate more on earning through various ads and all that - which is not bad, but it should not be too much at the expense of quality user experience that your audience deserves.
You know there is nothing more annoying than landing on a website or a blog page that is too much ad-infested.
Ads come in various forms, styles and sizes e.g Google AdSense, third-party affiliate ads banners etc. Ads puts most site visitors off if you never knew that, because it appears as clutter and no one likes ad-clutter. Especially if its an online ad popup that blocks your view when it consistently patches on the whole screen of your viewing device (mobile phone or desktop devices) or it keeps on blinking on the screen, which can interrupt you a lot from whatever you were doing on a particular site.
The objective of an ad is to attract and achieve a click from a website visitor(s), an action that if gained it earns you revenue. That is its main goal.
But the moment it ends up offending or annoying your site visitors then that means you will end up loosing than you gain from those affiliate ads, because your audience will leave your site and go to your competitor's. When Google notices that there is high visitor flight consistently from your website then it is highly likely to rank it lower, and due to that you won't be able to attract more visitors especially from SERPs to earn from ads, because your site will now be lower in page ranks.
NB: So you need to tone down on too much of affiliate ads on your site, (reduce them if they are unnecessarily many ) lest you get penalized by Google for lack of user consideration.
