Well, as bloggers, there is one crucial thing that you all need to know when it comes to your blog posts. That Google uses programs known as bots, which are web crawlers or web sotftwares to help it in ranking of a post(s). Although "Content is King" as we all know it in the blogosphere and you as a writer, content marketer etc, that is what you must always strive to achieve (to satisfy your readers' needs) through Content which is King in this industry. And therefore articles that are carefully linked together helps "web-spiders" in crawling all pages within your website and eventually ranking of your blog posts depending on its user-importance first and how quality is both the internal/external links it has. So you also need to interlink your blog posts together to boost its performance with search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo etc. But first, what is interlinking?
What Is Interlinking.
Interlinking is a process that is used especially by most webmasters, publishers, content creators and even app/web developers alike to link or connect one web content, article or blog post with another or with several other posts internally (within the blog). How To Interlink Your Blog Posts.
Linking up posts (internally) within your blog - in other words interlinking - should not be a tough task for you to do. It is one of the very easy techniques that you can use to create more avenues for your site visitors to enable them access more information right within your website without them having to hit that back-button to go to another external site(s). It is a strategy you need to use to ensure that you attract, retain and provide your site visitors with adequate links to make them stay longer, fully engaged on your site and to reduce greater chances of high bounce-rates and/or low user experience within your site. So the longer they stay on your site might be an indication that they must have found your website interesting. But most importantly, you should always note that you can never retain visitors who are not happy already with your site after they have quickly scanned or hastily read halfway only one or just a few posts in your website. Reason may be because maybe that particular post they are currently reading is not that interesting or not relevant for them at all and if that's the case, then do you know exactly what you are supposed to do? What it means here is that you have to write high quality, well structured, more targeted and above all relevantly interlinked posts.
That accompanied with adequate keywords here and there within the post, it will no-doubt lead to superior user experience.
So here you have just created yet another post and it makes you feel very exited about the progress in your blogging journey, since its one among just a few contents that you have put more efforts and dedication on in writing up. But apart from that post's content relevance to your readers, will it help keep those visitors to your blog/website? That's the BIG question. It is one of the major challenges that so many publishers/content creators like you and I sometimes we go through.
So, for the benefit of your site's SEO (Search Engine Optimization), post interlinking is a simple step that you always need to do which will in-turn keep your site visitors more engaged by not just linking your contents in a structured manner, but interlinking relevant contents for more customer value information needs, usefulness and satisfaction at the same time.
So here are the steps that you need to follow (with example screenshots) that will help in guiding you to muster the process of interlinking your web posts and/or other page contents.
Now let's go.. step-by-step.
Step #1: Login to your blogger.com account.
If you have not logged-in already, just go to blogger.com and login to your account. In your blogger website's dashboard, under your blog's title e.g. BriskContent click on the drop down arrow to reveal a drop down your blogs as you can see I pointed and clicked on it in the image below. After you click on the drop-down arrow, then you select the blog/website that contains the post(s) that you want to update by interlinking with each other, i.e. if you have more than one domain hosted within one platform like in blogger/blogspot.
But if you only have one domain or URL like you can see in our case example above (it is only 1 domain) with a single blog name on the drop-down list (see image in Step 1 above). So there is no point to click on it, since all contents within the entire dashboard are related to that single blog as listed on the left menu. So you can just proceed to the next stage - step 2.
Step #2: Click on the Post option.
On the menu list on the left side of your blogger dashboard (see on the image below), click on Posts link option to open a list of posts that you have as drafts or the ones that you have already published and you now want to interlink up.Step #3: Click on Published.
Still on the left menu click on Published and once you have done that you can now see a window in the middle with a list of posts that you had published earlier. So if you want to interlink a number of posts, then from that window is where you will have to do a repeat of the entire interlinking selection process for each post as you link them up one after the other. Now, select whichever post it is that you want to interlink with another from the posts listed on that window (see the image in Step 4 below).
Step #4: Copy the URL of the post that you want to interlink.
Now here, under the post title of the post that you want to link you can then go ahead and click on thaalternatively (see pointer in the image below) to open that post on a different browser window tab, if it is the specific post that you want to link with another. Then on your browser's URL or search box, the URL of the post that you have clicked to view will appear there. Simply highlight that post's URL (as you can see its highlighted in color blue in the image below) and right-click on it then copy.
Or alternatively to copy the highlighted URL use your keyboard shortcut method, but first, just click to place a cursor on the URL of that post you are viewing. Then on your keyboard press CTRL+A to select the whole of that URL. Then next press CTRL+C to copy that URL, then go back. Then to paste it at the selected destination you will have to place a cursor where you want to paste that URL and press CTRL+V on your keyboard to execute the pasting function.
NB: Remember to use the keyboard shortcuts method only if all the keys are functional, because if any of the keys that I have mentioned above are not working properly then that keyboard shortcut method won't help you much, your only option left will be the mouse.
Step #5: Click to open the Compose or HTML option of the other post.
Using your mouse click on the back button to go back to your blogger webmaster dashboard, and again click on Posts then you can either click on All, Draft or Published to open the list of the other post(s) and select the specific post that you want to interlink with the other(s).After you have clicked either (All/Draft/Published) depending on the post(s) that you want to interlink, then on the posts that appear there, under the post title you will see Edit | View | Delete . So just click the Edit option right below the post title (or you can directly click on the post title) to open that post where you will see both Compose and HTML options (see image below). Once you have clicked on the Edit or title of that post it will open it in Compose mode window (its the default view mode) which will display the post contents in word format as you can see in this image below.
But click on the Compose option if you don't see the post in that mode, don't click the HTML option of the other post where you intend to interlink it with.
NB: Although you can use both options i.e (Compose/HTML) in the process of interlinking your posts, it will work on either option; but the HTML option contains the source-code with content of the post and that requires a bit of coding skills. So if you are not an expert in coding yet then I would not recommend it for you at this stage as a beginner; because if you do it wrongly then you will end up altering a piece of code or two, and that can be a tough task for you to correct if you have no skills or any HTML coding idea.
Step #6: Select the anchor-text.
Anchor-text is the text that is used to link a post with another post either internally or externally. So go ahead and select anchor-text that you intend to use for linking. (See the image below, I have selected the Anchor text in color blue that I want to use to interlink). After that you can click on Link on the post-editor task bar. (See image below).
That action will open up the following pop-up window where you will right-click on the URL bar then paste the URL of the post that you selected and copied in the earlier stage (Step #3:) above for linking.
Then paste the copied URL there in the box written (To what URL should this link go?) NB: You can test the URL that you have pasted to see if it opens up correctly in another window.
If that happens then go back and click OK to save. Then on the right click Save and that's it.
You are done, but before you can celebrate about the changes that you have just made simply click View again under the post title to check and confirm the links that you have made if they appear and are effective.
Conclusion.
Every blog post should not be a stand alone mountain, but needs to be part of the whole interconnected web of information network within your website. So to ensure you achieve that then you need to position your blog post(s) in a manner that helps it be crawled effectively by search engine bots and to boost its ranking potentials. You have no choice but to interlink it internally with other similar articles of the same category, topic and information group that can make it more user friendly to deliver its intended purpose.Thank you for reading this, I hope it assisted you.
